Kanchenjunga Circuit Trek

The one of the most adventurous trek of Nepal (The 3rd highest peak of Nepal). Kanchenjunga Trek begins once you reach Suketar via flight from Biratnagar. From Suketar we trek to Mitlung, Sukhathum and reach to Sherpa village of Ghunsa. The trails at the lower sections pass through fertile valleys with beautiful pastures, villages of Limbu people, cardamom fields and dense forests. This trek lies in Kanchenjunga Conservation Area which preserves many endangered species of birds like Impedance pheasant, red billed blue magpie, amphibians and animals like elusive snow leopard, Himalayan black bear, red panda and many more. Ethnic groups of Limbu and Rai are dominant in this area who have their own culture and tradition. Kanchenjunga trek is chance to explore some of the most beautiful mountains in world and valley that they surround with rural lifestyle and rich culture in harmony with variety of ecosystem from subtropical land to glacial wilderness. September to November and March to May are best months for travel.

Details

Kanchenjunga Trek is a challenging walk into the remote & unspoiled trails of Mt. Kanchenjunga (8586m) – 3rd highest peak of the world. The name Kanchenjunga means “five great treasures of snow” which refers to the five summits that make up Kanchenjunga. This massif forms the Nepal’s border with India’s Sikkim. This region is not only famous for panoramic Himalayan views, wonderful topogragphy of land but also unique insight to Nepali rural lifestyle and culture along with various rare  wildlife species. The trail takes you to every climate Nepal has to offer from steamy jungles to jumbled glaciers at high altitude. Kanchenjunga massif is considered as one of the most beautiful mountain massifs in the world.

 

Kanchenjunga Trek begins once you reach Suketar via flight from Biratnagar. From Suketar we trek to Mitlung, Sukhathum and reach to Sherpa village of Ghunsa. The trails at the lower sections pass through fertile valleys with beautiful pastures, villages of Limbu people, cardamom fields and dense forests. After a day of acclimatization at Ghunsa we trek further north along the river bank us magnificent mountain scenery. We pass through meadows full with wildflowers, rhododendron and pine forest and reach to Nuphchu River valley area. We go further up towards  Lhonak and along the Kanchenjunga Glacier to Pangpema, Kanchenjunga Base Camp on north side. Here we can enjoy the spendor of Jannu, Kanchenjunga and Chang Himal. Then we retrace back to Kambachen, Ghunsa. We cross several passes- Sinion La, Mirgin La and Sinelapche Bhanjyang and make steep descent to Cheram continuing to Oktang monastery. We move down to Sakthum, Phurumbo and to Taplejung-Suketar for a flight to Kathmandu.

Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu (1,300m)

Day 02: Sightseeing of Kathmandu and Bhaktapur city

Day 03: Fly from Kathmandu to Biratnagar (81m)

Day 04: Fly from Biratnagar to Suketar (2,420m) or Drive from Phidim (1,179m) to Suketar

Day 05: Suketar to Mitlung (921m) 4-5 hrs

Day 06: Mitlung to Chirwa (1,270m) 5-6 hrs

Day 07: Chirwa to Sukathum (1,576m) 5-6 hrs

Day 08: Sukathum to Amjilosa (2,308m) 6-7 hrs

Day 11: Acclimatisation day at Ghunsa

Day 13: Acclimatisation Day at Kambachen

Day 14: Kambachen to Lhonak (4,780m) 6-7 hrs

Day 15: Trek to Pangpema/Kanchenjunga North Base Camp (5,388m) 6-7 hrs

Day 16: Trek back to Kambachen (4,050m) 6-7 hrs

Day 17: Kambachen to Ghunsa (3,595m) 3-4 hrs

Day 18: Ghunsa to Sele Le (4,290m) 6-7 hrs

Day 19: Sele Le to Cheram (3,870m) 6-7 hrs

Day 20: Cheram to Ramche (4,580m) and return back to Cheram, 4-5 hrs

Day 21: Cheram to Tortong (2,995m) 5-6 hrs

Day 22: Tortong to Yamphudin (2,080m) 6-7 hrs

Day 23: Yamphudin to Yangpang (1,007m) 6-7 hrs

Day 24: Yangpang to Thorpu (1,500m) 5-6 hrs

Day 25: Thorpu to Birtamod (300m) 5-6 hrs

Day 26: Drive from Birtamod to Bhadrapur then Fly to Kathmandu

Day 27: Transfer to the airport for the final departure
