Lhasa EBC Kailash tour
Mount Kailash and Mansarovar Lake’s religious significance
Mount Kailash and the Mansarovar Lake have holy values for several religious groups like Hindus, Jains, Buddhists, and Bon. Everyone has a different story and religious significance attached to these two destinations in the Himalayas.
For example, Hindus consider Mount Kailash the home of their Lord Shiva and his wife, Goddess Parvati. For them, the holy water of Mansarovar Lake and Kailash Kora is a way to get rid of their sins and attain liberation (Moksha).
Likewise, for Buddhists, Mount Kailash is connected to their cosmic axis and is home to their deity Chakrasamvara (Demchok). Jains believe their saint Rishabhadeva attained liberation on Mount Kailash.
During the tour, you will hear several legends connected to Mount Kailash. The energy of this mountain is very alluring, and the divinity around it makes anyone’s time at Mansarovar Lake and during Kailash Kora a lifetime experience.
Which mountains will you see during the Lhasa EBC Kailash tour?
The Lhasa EBC Kailash tour offers plenty of mountain views. During the Kathmandu Lhasa flight, you will see a stunning aerial panorama of the Himalayas that includes both Nepalese and Tibetan Himalayan ranges.
Likewise, as you drive from Lhasa to North Everest Base Camp, you will see many incredible mountains, such as Mt. Everest, Mt. Lhotse, Mt. Cho Oyu, Mt. Makalu, and Mt. Shishapangma.
In addition to that, you will also see Gurla Mandhata, Nandi Parvat, Ashtapad, Mt. Kailash, etc, during the Kailash Kora.
Are you going to do Inner Kora or Outer Kora during the Lhasa EBC Kailash tour? What’s the difference?
You will do the Outer Kora during the Lhasa EBC Kailash tour. It is easier and does not involve glacier crossings and technical sections like Inner Kora. Inner Kora requires a specialized guide and a special permit as well.
Outer Kora route: You will explore sites likeDira-Puk, Dolma La Pass, and ZuthulPhuk.
Inner Kora route: You will explore sites like Nandi Parvat, Kailash Charan Sparsh, and the Ashtapad.
Kailash Kora difficulty and how to prepare for it?
The Kailash Kora is a three-day walk at high altitudes and on rugged terrain. For fit travelers who can walk 6 to 7 hours a day, Kailash Kora will not be a challenging endeavor.
However, the Kora can get demanding for you if you are not physically active. During the Kailash Kora, you will hike around 53 kilometers and reach up to 5,630 meters (18,471 ft) above sea level.
On the way to Dolma La Pass, you will also ascend several other minor passes. Therefore, travelers need to be in good shape to put in the required effort.
Another factor to consider during the Kora is the cold climate and high exposure to the sun. Out of 10, we rate Kailash Kora’s difficulty 6.5. You can prepare for the Kailash Kora in the following ways:
Regular walking: Regular walking itself will help you prepare for Kailash Kora. Try walking with a backpack weighing around 5 kg. It will improve your stamina and endurance.
Cardio: In addition to walking, you can also do activities like day hiking, cycling, swimming, running, and jogging to improve your stamina and endurance.
Acclimatization: The only way to prepare for high altitude is acclimatization. Day hikes are a great way to get exposed to high altitude and acclimatize. You can also do short treks.
Consistency: Whatever you choose to do, be consistent. Your body will need time to get physically better.
Altitude sickness during the Kailash Kora with Lhasa and Everest Base Camp tour
On this trip, you will be exposed to high altitudes, which have a risk of altitude sickness. In Kathmandu, you will be around 1,324 meters (4,344 ft) above sea level. From Kathmandu to Lhasa, it will be a huge altitude jump from 1,324 meters (4,344 ft) to 3,650 meters (11,975 ft).
Though we have an acclimatization day in Lhasa, you may still feel lightheaded or uneasy because of the more than 2,000 meters (6,561 ft) rise in elevation in just two hours. Do not worry.
If you feel very sick, our guide will provide you with altitude sickness medicine. After two nights in Lhasa, you will gradually drive towards North Everest Base Camp at 5,150 meters (16,896 ft).
From Lhasa, you will reach EBC in five days, spending nights at Shigatse (3,900 m/12,795 ft), Shegar (4,200 m/13,779 ft), and Rongbuk (4,980 m/16,338 ft).
On the way, the route crosses a handful of passes like Kamba La (4,794 m/15,728), Kora La (5,010 m/16,437 ft), and Gyatso La Pass (5,220 m/17,126 ft). It provides short exposure to 5,000 meters, so it’s great before you make it to EBC.
After EBC, you will continue towards Mount Kailash Kora, which takes you up to Dolma La Pass (5,630 m/18,471 ft). By the time you reach the top of Dolma La Pass, you are most likely to be well-acclimatized, so a high altitude will not affect you that much.
So, basically, you may have some troubles in the first 2 to 3 days of the trip, but with the progress of the tour, you will be fine. Below, we have mentioned altitude sickness symptoms and some suggestions that will help you acclimatize:
Altitude sickness symptoms:
Lightheaded
Uneasiness
Vomiting
Nausea
Headache
Insomnia
Loss of appetite
Difficulty in breathing
Tips to avoid altitude sickness:
Drink lots of water and warm soups. Likewise, have ginger honey tea every day and limit overconsumption of caffeine. A hydrated body is less likely to suffer from altitude sickness.
Do not drink alcohol or smoke during the tour.
After landing in Lhasa, get a lot of rest and enjoy the trip slowly.
Eat carbohydrate-rich food and eat in moderation. We don’t want stomach or indigestion.
During the Kora, ascend slowly and maintain your pace.

A most successful pilgrimage support by a most excellent team at Leaf Holidays!
My friend and I have successfully completed the guided Mt Kailash and Manasarover pilgrimage with the help of Managing Director Gopal Thapa, of Leaf Holidays, in September 2024. I can personally vouch for their thorough support throughout from the moment we started communications to clarify details of the tour, to ensure we booked it with confidence, to when we arrived and departed - they have an excellent and experienced network of guides, porters and chefs. I felt totally looked after and cared for throughout. Gopal was on hand every step of the way to support everyone's particular requirements. Most of all he did all this while staying cheerful, patient and amicable all the time! The chefs did an excellent job cooking fresh breakfast, lunch and dinner at every location. Incredible support was provided during the Lake Manasrover prayers and also during the Mt Kailash circumambulation by both Gopal and Kusum. Absolutely loved the cultural night treat a day before our departure with the added bonus of celebrating Gopal's brithday! Bravo indeed Leaf Holidays team - many thanks, keep it up and God bless!

Dream Darshan of Kailash Maansarovar
Going to Kailash Maansarovar was a life long dream and just when I thought it may never happen I got the divine call from Jayshree our tour operator to pack my bags and get ready. The Yatra was very well organized with ZERO planning n stress for me.The flights, the accommodation, food and transport were awesome. The people who really looked after us day and night and very warmly deserve a mention here. Gopal Thapa for Visa's and accommodation in Nepal. He gave us a very warm welcome at the airport too :) We were taken to Pashupatinath temple and also our Mountain flight to Everest and other Himalayan ranges was well organized.Gokaran who was our 24 hrs shadow and helped us with every little thing on the 11 day drive and trek to Kailash and Maansarovar. He made us laugh so much with his jokes and he is such a good singer. He was also the life saver with oxygen cylinder for me as I had low O2 a few times at high altitude. He made the whole trip seem so easy though it's one of the most difficult Darshans that one can do.Gokul and Nakul and the good chef who kept feeding us 3 times a day with warm breakfast, lunch and dinner. Very nice and genuine guys and so hardworking.I would recommend Leaf Holidays to anyone and everyone as there is a homely feeling with them and most of us literally had tears at the end of the trip. Like we wanted to come home but also we were leaving these lovely souls behind to help with other Yatris. I think I will always keep in touch with them as for me now they are family :)

Unforgettable Kailash Manasarover - June 2024
Breath-taking views and amazing location! What an experience... Leaf Holidays took care of us very well... We landed at midnight and Gopal was there at the airport to receive us, right from there till we were dropped back at the airport, Leaf Holidays staff were there to take care of us and ensured that we enjoy each day of our trip. Even while waiting for our group visa to arrive, they took us around Nepal each day to a different location accompanied by their staff and arranged cab services. All hotel stays were superb, especially in Tibet. Food was delicious, freshly cooked warm food for every meal with a balanced veg diet, unlimited supply of mineral water bottles, hot chai and hot water always, even for bathing at Manasarover:) Above all, the staff - Gopal and his brothers were caring, took care of every detail right from picking up our luggages to loading and unloading each day, carrying our personal bags, making sure they walk with us at every step, checking for our health each day and what not... the boys were simply great that gave us a "warm" experience and a memorable one!!!

The holiest pilgrimages
Om NamashivayaI recently completed Mount Kailash, Manasarovar yatra with Leaf Holidays Treks & Expedition. It was dream come true. I will cherish each and every moment of my yatra for the rest of my life.It is a tough pilgrimage. It was well planned and executed by Gopal and his staff. Right from paperwork, hotel accommodations to everyday meal plan everything is carefully planned. I got support, guidance and help whenever needed. Regular health check is done for the entire group. Staff gave excellent care to those whose oxygen level dropped. Totally impressed with their services. I would like to appreciate Jayshree Patel’s services. She is my contact person in Canada for Kailash Manasarovar yatra. She gave timely guidance and positive confidence to prepare for the yatra. She is humble and down to earth which makes it easy to communicate with her freely. Thank you Gopal, his staff and Jayshree for all the support to fulfill my childhood dream.

The Par Excelent Services - Best of the Best People
At the time when we wanted to visit Nepal, we were looking for a tour guide in Nepal. we came across Leaf Holidays and were a bit skeptical about it. We landed in Kathmandu on the 29th of April afternoon, to our surprise, the team of Mr. Gopal Thapa and Tek Prasad were waiting for us at the airport with garlands and a big Van and smiling faces. Now we were sure to have the best time with this team. They had arranged our stay in the best hotels with superfood. During the entire trip of 10 days, they give us the best services. Due to air pollution, our flights were canceled for Pokhran, and without a second thought, they decided to drive us for about 8 hours to Pokhara in the Van. The roads were terrible, but we enjoyed the bumpy ride with good food on the way. The same cancelation happened on our return and they joyfully road-ridden with the team for about 12 hours to Nagarkot from Pokhran. They showed us the most beautiful places and temples to worship. This trip became our Pilgrim trip. Gopalji and Prasadji took us to the best places for shopping and managed to get us real bargains. They ensured we do not spend more than what is worth paying for.At the end of our trip, they dropped us at the airport and it was difficult to say Good Buy, but we said: "will come again". I want to say here, that if anyone is looking to visit Nepal, and wants to enjoy a true hospitality experience, you must use their services.
