With reference to one of the folklores, the Kathmandu valley was a lake bordered by hills during the Pleistocene era. It is assumed that Manjushree, a heavenly saint from China had come here for a pilgrimage and saw a massive lotus emanating a dazzling light at the centre of the lake.
